Before the race, Gorm said it is special to be back racing in Denmark, especially in his ‘backyard’. Last year, Gorm, back then racing for a Dutch team, did not finish the race, and he was therefore very motivated to do better this year.
He recovered, and prepared himself for the final. With three kilometers to go, he saw an opportunity to attack. “I got a small gap and went full. In the end, I was able to hold off the group. Winning the first stage is absolutely fantastic, and I hope I can do something spectacular tomorrow, but most of all, keep the jersey.”
Clarke worked with the Canadian national team over the last two years. He was the team manager for the World Championships in Imola andFlanders, and at the Tokyo Olympics. The Girona-based cycling enthusiast also worked for several continental teams as sports director and manager. He is now looking forward to a new challenge with Team SmartDry – Girona Cycling City.
Sierra was very happy with his second place: “I borrowed most of my material for this championship. That requires adaption and adjustment. Also, my competitors were strong. It wasn’t easy and therefore I’m excited with my result."
“I did now five races with the team. Each race went a little bit better. Now I get the chance from the team’s management to race on the highest level in Spain. I am curious to see what the level is in the Copa de España."
The Danish, Banyoles-based cyclist said his appearances on the final podium were a result of having good legs. “I felt good, but it was a hard day.” He enjoys the ceremony after the finish. “Double podium in the Copa de España is exciting”, he concluded.
Scott enjoyed his summer in New Zealand, but is also happy to be back in Catalonia. “My home country was god for preparing for the season. It feels really nice to be back in Catalonia as well. Catalonia, and more specifically Girona and Banyoles, is starting to feel like a second home to me. This year I decided to come back here earlier to get into the swing of things, so hopefully I can do better earlier in the season.”
