“Oof, that was a hard day”, Christian Gorm said after the finish of Aiztondo Klasikoa. “I was supposed to stay in the peloton all race, and wait for the final, however, I had a head start on one of the climbs, attacked, and went for it.” It resulted in a double podium for the Dane.
Gorm won both the Meta Volante and the Sprint Classification. Also, he had the same number of points as the winner of the mountain classification. “We got a good gap”, Gorm said, “and with the two of us in the breakaway, we decided to push on.”
The Danish, Banyoles-based cyclist said his appearances on the final podium were a result of having good legs. “I felt good, but it was a hard day.”
On the circuit towards the finish, the break got caught by the peloton. “We tried to survive as long as possible”, Gorm said.
He enjoys the ceremony after the finish. “Double podium in the Copa de España is exciting”, he concluded.
